Monthly Genre Assignments
Students are assigned a monthly genre. This is to encourage students to read books, finish books, try different genres, present orally to a small group, and celebrate completing a book with a creative project. The project will be assigned at the beginning of the month, and due at the end of the same month (with the exception of November/December).
Projects are assigned allowing time for students to do quality work. Project assignments will be different with each genre. Below is our list of genres by month:
- SEPTEMBER = Fantasy or Science Fiction: commonly uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary plot element, theme, or setting. Usually this genre takes place in imaginary worlds where magic and magical creatures are common.
Project: Book Jacket due, October 2, 2017
- OCTOBER = (Auto)Biography: a written account of another person's life, either written BY them, or NOT written by them.
Project: Tea Party on October 31.

Although the word "novel" normally refers to long fictional works, the term "graphic novel" is applied broadly and includes fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work.
